About this project
Wellington City Council is asking for feedback on two proposed new traffic resolutions.
The resolutions are for minor changes that will make the streets safer and easier for people travelling by bike, on foot, and by bus.
Following feedback and Council approval, the traffic restrictions will be added to the Council's legal database and instructions issued to contractors to install any signs and road markings.
Traffic Resolutions
TR117-23 Churchill Drive, Wilton and Crofton Downs: Cycleway and Not Stopping At All Times
Correction Update: This traffic resolution had originally stated that all houses on Churchill Drive had off-street parking. In fact, one house does not have private off-street parking, although there are two off-street parks on nearby council reserve land.
We’re consulting on minor changes on Churchill Drive to make this street safer and easier for people travelling by bike, on foot, and by bus.
The changes we’re looking at include:
- Installing speed humps on the approach to two pedestrian crossings to slow vehicle speeds.
- Removing car parks outside 11 to 21 Churchill Drive, where cars often park illegally on the footpath and road.
- Installing uphill bike lanes along Churchill Drive - towards Crofton Downs between Blackbridge Road and Chartwell Drive; and towards Wilton from Wilton Bush Road to Wilton Road
- Painting broken yellow lines on Churchill Drive.
These changes will make it safer for everyone travelling along Churchill Drive, as sightlines will improve for all road users, and the new layout will encourage people to travel at the posted speed limit and create more space for people biking without slowing down buses and cars heading uphill.

TR118-23 Park Street, Grant Road, Wadestown Road, Wadestown: Proposed cycle lane and parking changes
This leaflet is to let you know about a change we are proposing to make in your neighbourhood as part of the Wadestown connections biking and walking improvements.
Park Street, Grant Road, and Wadestown Road are part of the Wellington bike network. We’re consulting on a minor change now that can make these roads safer and easier for people travelling by bike, on foot, and by car.
To improve safety of people travelling on this route, we’re proposing to relocate some on-street car parks and remove a small amount of on-street car parking. We would then be able to install an uphill bike lane along Park Street, a short section of Grant Road, then up Wadestown Road to the intersection of Wadestown Road and Roscoe Terrace.
These changes will make it safer and easier for everyone travelling up Wadestown Road, as it will mean people driving won’t get stuck behind people biking uphill, and there will be no need for cars to cross the centreline to pass parked cars.
In addition to the changes proposed through this consultation, we will also be raising the two pedestrian crossings at Wadestown village to help slow traffic down past the shops to meet the posted speed limit of 30kph and make it safer for people to walk across the road.
